Celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today is the day that we honor the sacrifices made to advance civil rights in America. We frame the memorial around the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. because his voice for civil rights rang louder and further than others. But be clear, Dr. King knew that he couldn’t do it alone. In his Letter From Birmingham Jail, he so eloquently explains why we need one another to bring about change.

That’s what makes Dr. King’s legacy so impactful. He spearheaded a movement that inspired people from all races and religions to fight for social justice. He brought the country together in a way it hadn’t ever been. It’s a unity that’s lacking today. But hopefully as we pause to remember Dr. King and all of the civil rights activists that fought alongside him, we can move closer in love and tolerance and gain a better respect for our neighbor.

Please listen to this reading of The Letter From Birmingham Jail. Let’s remember that the fight for civil rights continues. And as always, let’s press on together!
