When I Die, I Want Others To Say That I…

As you know, Aretha Franklin, the ‘Queen of Soul’, passed away. I haven’t been watching the news lately, so I can only imagine the amount of coverage her life’s story is receiving from media outlets.  And, why wouldn’t her death be news?  She is a household name. I would be impressed by someone who hasn’t heard at least one of her songs.  Again; she is a legend.  People know her to be a brilliant musician and singer/songwriter, a powerful business women, as well as a humanitarian and philanthropist. People who knew her also praise her for her honesty and fairness. According to those who’ve been around her, her very presence commands respect; she never had to demand it.  Of course I’ve never met “The Queen”. I can only go by what people say.  Which got me to thinking: “what would people have to say about me when I pass away?”

Life is a journey and death is inevitable. It might be difficult to think about, but we all have to die. Life and death are a package deal.  You can’t have one without the other. With that being said. I am doing my best to live a life that is meaningful. When I die, I want it to be said that I loved fairly and without prejudice. That I gave freely to others regardless of my own needs. That I listened. That I forgave. That I helped. That I inspired. And most importantly that I (to the best of my ability) showed a visible example of Jesus Christ.

Let’s allow this moment to be one of reflection.  Take the time to consider if you are living your life on purpose. Make a list of what you want others to remember about you when you die. Then, most importantly, make an effort to live each day accordingly.  If you aren’t sure what to include on your list, you can look to Beyonce for a little inspiration. I posted a performance of her singing “I Was Here”. The lyrics of this song list how Beyonce wants to be remembered. It’s a touching song, and I hope you enjoy it.

This post isn’t meant to be depressing, so I hope it isn’t received as such. I merely want the I Press On community to know that each day matters. Tomorrow always has the potential to be better than today. You are important. What you do matters. What you say matters. How you live your life matters. Let’s make every effort to live life a life worth remembering. And as always let’s press on together!
