The I Press On blog is into its second year. I am excited about how much our community has grown over the past year. If you follow the blog regularly then you know I write about a variety of topics using a variety of writing styles. I try to write so that everyone can find something beneficial. I’ve always wanted I Press On to be a community. I never wanted I Press On to be centered exclusively around my experiences or opinions. I know that it will take many voices to spread awareness about depression and postpartum depression.
I’m always looking for ways to enhance our conversations. Earlier this year I incorporated contributing writers. (I am still looking for people who want to contribute.) I received a lot of positive feedback about the posts from our guest writers. Our readers really enjoyed hearing different voices. This made me think, “How else can I add new voices to the blog?” Then it came to me! Today, I would like to announce a new addition to the blog, The Community Read.
I search out good information and research about mental wellness regularly. Sometimes I share some of my findings on the I Press On Facebook page. If you frequent our Facebook page, you might be familiar with the name Monica Coleman. I am happy to announce Professor Coleman’s book, Bipolar Faith as our first community read. When I started I Press On, Monica is the first voice I found that is similar to my own. I find her to be sincere and passionate about wanting to help women with depression, particularly within the African-American church.
I would love for you to order the book so that we can discuss it later. I am going to write about the book on the last Monday in October. That gives you plenty of time to purchase and read. Let’s have a good conversation about a good book. And as always, let’s press on together!
