I don’t generally speak about my relationship with Cherica Adams. We met when we were freshmen at Winston-Salem State University. If you remember, Cherica was murdered in 1999 with the assistance of NFL player Rae Carruth. Well…Cherica was my friend. She is a person who was in my life for a season and the reason of her presence in my life will last a lifetime.
While I’m super proud to have called Cherica my friend, I’m equally proud to be friends with her mom – a friendship that started around her stove over 20 years ago when she taught me how to make grits (easily one of my favorite memories).
This Mother’s Day, I celebrate Ms. Adams and her commitment to being a mother to her grandson Chancellor. (Chancellor survived the assassination attack against him and his mom.) I don’t believe you can name yourself to be a “super mom”. It should be a title bestowed on a mother by those who observe her profound commitment and sacrifices she makes to be the best mom she can be. Saundra Adams has had her hands full being the mother of a special needs child all the while offering him the same life experiences he would have had if he were born under different circumstances.
Ms. Adams, you are an inspiration! And, I’d be hard pressed to find someone to disagree with me that you are indeed a real life super mom. I salute you! Happy Mother’s Day!
If you want to hear how Saundra Adams has met life’s challenges with a positive outlook, grace and forgiveness, join us at our I Press On Gospel Celebration! (see below) She will be there to inspire you to press on!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms. And as always, let’s press on together!
